This week’s Eye on Innovation feature takes a look at some of the new technology available to us in the form of Apps, which can help us keep even the most challenging of personal goals.
Whether you’re trying to exercise more, eat healthier, pay off debt, or meet another personal goal, new habits are easy to break and hard to maintain over time. But don’t give up just yet. No matter your goal, there’s an app for that.
Exercise More
Fitness-related goals are the most common for 2018, and there are countless apps out there to help. Nike Training Club is one of the top-rated fitness apps on iOS and Android. This app features workouts designed by athletes and trainers focusing on strength, endurance, or mobility. The app offers different levels of difficulty, making it a good option for a beginner planning to intensify over time.
One of the main excuses for not working out is lack of time. Fitnet busts that myth with different five- to seven-minute workouts for those with hectic schedules. The free app offers more than 200 workout videos including cardio, strength, and yoga and uses an in-app SelfieCam to compare your moves to the personal trainers in the videos.
Eat Healthier
Exercise and nutrition often go hand-in-hand, especially if your overall goal is to be healthier or in better shape. As with the workout-related apps, there are hundreds of diet and nutrition apps on the market. Nutrino is a veteran to the app game and works as a virtual nutritionist. The app helps track your food, exercise, and water throughout the day and offers personalized meal and snack suggestions based on your diet, goals, and personal taste.
Tackle Your Finances
Whether you’re trying to pay off debt, save more money, or budget better, there’s an app out there to help. Mint helps create budgets and gives suggestions to improve based on spending habits, consolidates your bill payments and sends alerts when payments are due, and provides you a free credit score with tips to improve it. Goodbudget takes the envelope budgeting method virtual to help users live within their means and put money into savings. It syncs spending across multiple devices so the whole family can track on the same budget plan.
Other Goals
For more personal or specific goals, a habit-tracking app is a good option. Done lets you set multiple goals and reminders, tracks multiple times a day, keeps track of streaks, and can be used for both setting and breaking habits. Strides works similarly, but also lets you set long-term goals and tracks progress and milestones toward meeting those goals over time.
